Toodyay.

Friday 19th September 2008, Toodyay.

I have now moved on to that small town called Toodyay, about 80K east of Perth (see map). I am now wondering how long I will be here as now that the sun has gone down it is a little colder than recent times, so we will have to see if I can handle it. I do intend having a good look around the area so I will be here for a week at least, and maybe have to stay another week as there is a long weekend coming up and it may be a problem getting in anywhere else.

Mandurah, ready to move.

Thursday 18th September 2008, Mandurah.

I have for the past couple of days been preparing for a move tomorrow. The weather forecast for this week has not been very good so I took the opportunity on Tuesday to pack up the annexe and put up our small roof so I could have at least a little shelter from the rain. It was just as well I did take this action as it has been raining and I have now gotten the good annexe packed away dry. The small one won’t matter if it is pulled down wet as it is likely that this is the one I will put up when I get where I am going, which brings me to a point of where I am going: Ever since I have been compiling my TV records I have noticed a place called Toodyay in the Perth vicinity and have noticed that it has all the Perth stations transmitted in its local area, and digital as well. This led me to believe that it was a suburb of Perth and this transmitter was covering a black spot with the Perth main transmitter, but I have since found that Toodyay is a small town with a population of only several hundred and is about 100 kilometres East of Perth. I have since been wondering what this small town has that no other has that qualifies it for such TV transmissions, so tomorrow I am moving there to find out. It so happens that Toodyay is close to other much larger towns like Northam and York which I want to have a look at anyway so the move will serve several purposes. It then all depends on when Linda returns from Melbourne as to whether I remain there for her return, or whether I move on to somewhere else.

I have enjoyed the company of Les and Jan, and Kay and Adrian while here, but they both look as though they are going to be tied down to this area for more medical treatment, so I have decided to part company and have a little look around. Adrian has been given a clean bill of health with his problems, but now it is Kay’s turn to need treatment, I do wish them all the best, and we should catch up with them again after Linda returns and we once again make a move down this way.

Mandurah.

Sunday 14th September 2008, Mandurah.

Today saw myself with Adrian and Les on a trip to Yarloop, about 50K south, to a Steam engine workshop museum. This workshop has a lot of history with the engineering workshop and was mainly driven by steam power. They have some truly remarkable old machinery on display with quite a few working steam engine exhibits, and that was the reason for going down today as this was a working day for them. Well worth the visit, and we did get back home just in time for the start of the V8 super car racing.

Mandurah.

Friday 12th September 2008, Mandurah.

Linda has gone back to Melbourne, so I am once again on my own for a few weeks. I do have company with Les and Jan being in the same park as I am, and Kay and Adrian in a park just down the road, but this will only be until mid next week when Les and Jan move on, so I intend going to a small town called Toodyay east of Perth and sit there for a couple of weeks. There are a couple of towns of Northam and York in that area that I want to have a look at while there so have decided to do it in Linda’s absence.

Just south of Mandurah is a large water inlet called Peel Inlet so I today decided to go for a drive around the narrow land strip between it and the ocean and have a look, even though the weather was not so good. Even though the area is rather picturesque it does not leave a great deal for the tourist as most of the area is made up of very new sub-division areas that encroach right up to the coast line, so this restricts the availability of scenic drives. It seems that the main attraction for this area is fishing in the inlet, hence even though there are 7 or so caravan parks in the area there are not many tourists actually stop in the immediate area, and the parks are mainly filled with permanents. I do intend touring in the area to the east of town one day next week when the weather is more suitable and hopefully with this area being mountainous, or hilly compared with other states, it may offer some reasonable scenery. Up until now I haven’t even gotten my camera out of its bag, so hopefully this will change to give me something to remember of the area.

Mandurah.

Sunday 7th September 2008, Mandurah.

We have again changed our plans somewhat after hearing of Adrian’s good news of health. We have now moved to Mandurah (see map) where they have been for the past several months getting treatment, so Linda could see them once more. Linda is going back to Melbourne again on Wednesday to stay with Narrelle while her hubby Matt is oversees, and if she doesn’t see Kay and Adrian now she may not get another chance for a while as they now intend moving on, cause they now can, and travel north to see the wild flowers and other attractions before heading back across the Nullarbor. Hopefully we will meet up with them again when it is time to traverse that great expanse once again. We had intended to go to Northam/York area, 100K east of Perth, for me to stay while Linda is in Melbourne and then head down this way when she returns, but we may now have to miss that area unless I move back up there while Linda is away.

I can say now that I caved in with not smoking for a while. We are now back in an area where I can buy my tobacco and yesterday gave in to buying some. It is not all good though, as I sat down for a smoke yesterday and did enjoy it thoroughly, but I was feeling a little ill for a while afterwards, so if it going to do this to me it will be more than likely they it go again, I might give it another go later today though.
